The Critical Language Scholarship is LIVE!

Do you want to study abroad, but feel held back by the price tag? Are you interested in learning languages? Do you like free things?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you need to check out the Critical Language Scholarship Program!

The CLS Program is a FULLY-FUNDED language immersion program developed by the U.S. Department of State. Any American student in a degree-seeking program and with an interest in learning a language is eligible to apply.

The current languages offered by the CLS Program include:

  • Arabic*
  • Azerbaijani
  • Bangla
  • Chinese**
  • Hindi
  • Indonesian
  • Japanese**
  • Korean
  • Persian*
  • Punjabi
  • Russian**
  • Swahili
  • Turkish
  • Urdu

*This program requires 1 academic year of previous language study

**This program requires 2 academic years of previous language study

The CLS Program offers language programs in four different levels; beginning, advanced beginning, intermediate, and advanced.

  • This will be a general ‘launch’ webinar for a wider audience explaining the goals of the program, highlighting resources available to students and study abroad offices and providing some tips for applicants.

The Study Abroad Office will also be hosting a CLS Information Session as a part of our “I, Too, Am Study Abroad” discussion series on October 27th from 3:00-4:30pm in PY 407.
